We are, quite literally, gambling with the future of our planet – for the sake of hamburgers
Peter Singer
Who doesn’t enjoy some good old scrambled eggs and bacon with a side of milk and cereal. Then comes lunch where you enjoy some meat and rice or you go out to restaurants and have a nice quick hamburger. We also end our day with even more meat and maybe some junk food with snacks in between. But what if I told you that this could possibly be the worst thing you can possibly put in your body? Sounds crazy doesn’t it since people have been doing it for centuries. Today, I’ll be showing you how you can live life as healthy as you can possibly be.
Let’s start off with eggs and meat, now can you guess what causes of death is more probable than dying of old age? It heart disease, cancer, stroke, medical errors, and diabetes. The nutrition labels on eggs show that one egg already has over 62% of the daily recommended cholesterol, so if you eat more than 2 eggs a day which most people do, you are already at a higher risk of heart disease and atherosclerosis and we haven’t even added meat to the equation yet. Like most people, you consume some sort of meat for lunch and dinner. A serving of steak is already at over 65% of your daily cholesterol. This goes the same with almost all sorts of meat products like fish and chicken and pork. In addition, meat also contains a huge amount of saturated fat which has been linked to cardiovascular disease, diabetes, obesity, and heart disease. Red meat which is considered as processed meat like bacon and sausage, lamb, steak, pork, or any meat that are red when raw are also shown to increase the risk of various types of cancer such as colon and rectum. Considering that over 2.1 billion people today are either obese and overweight due to the cheap cost of meat products and rising economies, it seems like a good choice to buy meat as we’ve been doing it for generations and the fact that it tastes good. Not to mention, if you’re more likely to experience these horrible diseases and cancer, it means more trips to the emergency room where errors do rarely happen but can be fatal.
Overall, it a very good idea to cut down on your meat and egg consumption and maybe add more fruits and vegetables to your diet. Mix it up with exercise and a balanced meal and you’ll feel like a new you.
